In order to deeply implement President XI Jinping’s concept of ecological civilization and improve the whole society’s awareness of the Wetland Protection Law, on June 10, Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark Administration jointly with the Alxa Deset UGGp Administration (Alxa Left Banner branch) carried out thematic publicity activities in Bayan Haote Town Ecological Park, and all cadres and staff jointly promoted the Wetland Protection Law.

Wetland Protection Law came into force on June 1, 2022.  It is the first law dedicated to the protection of wetlands in China, marking our movement towards the rule of law in wetland protection.  Its main contents include wetland resource management, wetland protection and utilization, wetland restoration, supervision and inspection, legal liability, etc.  Wetlands, together with forests and oceans, are known as the world’s three major ecosystems.  They have important ecological functions such as water conservation, water purification, climate regulation, and maintenance of biodiversity. Therefore, Wetland Protection Law provides that the state implements a system of control of the total area of wetlands to establish a wetland ecological protection compensation system. Besides, important wetlands are included into the ecological protection red line in accordance with the law.

As Alxa League fully implements the “river and lake chief system” and the scientific and efficient construction of forest and wetland, people’s awareness of ecological protection has been increasing.  According to the data of the third  investigation of the land in our country, the wetland area of Alxa League is 102,311.71 hectares. Among them, the area of scrub swamp is 1358.78 hectares; the area of swamp grass is 2760.25 hectares; the area of inland mudflats is 7418.26 hectares; the area of marshland is 69,020.92 hectares.  There is one national wetland park, that is, Inner Mongolia Alxa Yellow River National Wetland Park.  Its wetland biodiversity is becoming richer and richer, and wild life resources are increasing year by year.

Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark Administration, by getting closer to wetlands and popularizing the Wetland Protection Law, guides the general public to actively pay attention to and participate in the protection of wetland ecosystems, enhancing the awareness that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, realizing the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and making wetland parks a green space shared by the people!
