At the official invitation of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a delegation of four representatives from the Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark Administration visited the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark for a learning exchange from December 21 to 25, 2023.
Accompanied by staff from the Hong Kong Geopark, the Alxa delegation conducted field visits to key sites, including the Lions Nature Education Centre, the Hong Kong Volcano Discovery Centre etc., as well as the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Geopark-themed hotel.
The exchange focused on scientific research, public education, facility development, and the preservation of indigenous cultural heritage within Geoparks. Discussions also covered sustainable development strategies, the balance between geoheritage conservation and local livelihoods, and the role of Geoparks in boosting regional tourism and socio-economic growth. Successful collaborative models with partners were also shared.
This exchange marks a meaningful step in fostering cross-regional cooperation and advancing the sustainable development of Global Geoparks.
