To gain a comprehensive understanding of the population status, distribution, habitat, behavioral patterns, and threats facing goitered gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa) within and surrounding Alxa League's provincial-level nature reserves, Alxa Desert Global Geopark Administration commissioned Inner Mongolia Agricultural University to conduct the Goitered Gazelle Survey Project for Alxa League Provincial Nature Reserves in accordance with project implementation requirements. The field investigation has now been completed, culminating in a final survey report.
To ensure the accuracy and compliance of the report's data, Alxa Desert Global Geopark Administration organized a review panel consisting of relevant personnel and experts. The two-day review session was held at the Forestry College of Inner Mongolia Agricultural University on December 11–12, 2024.
During the review meeting, the research team presented a detailed overview of the survey findings, including:current status and population trends of goitered gazelles, distribution patterns and population estimates, ecological behaviors and habitat characteristics, major threats and conservation recommendations.
Five expert reviewers thoroughly examined the report's methodology, data analysis, and conclusions. After rigorous discussion, they provided specific revisions and suggestions, ultimately reaching a consensus review opinion.
Next, Alxa Desert Global Geopark Administration and Inner Mongolia Agricultural University will incorporate the expert feedback to refine the final report. This scientifically validated document will serve as a critical foundation for:developing targeted protection measures, informing research priorities, enhancing management strategies for goitered gazelle conservation in Alxa League.
Classified as Vulnerable by IUCN, goitered gazelles face increasing habitat pressure throughout their Central Asian range. This survey establishes vital baseline data for safeguarding Alxa's populations.
