To enrich science education resources for youth and leverage Alxa's professional strengths, the Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark Administration is speeding up efforts to expand its educational base. On February 24, following an agreement with the Alxa Camel Racing Association, the Geopark team, along with the Alxa League Camel Culture Museum and design experts, conducted a field survey in Sumutu Gacha, Alxa Left Banner, to advance preliminary design work.
The team focused on creating interactive science exhibits and youth programs, incorporating Alxa's camel culture and history—including the national intangible cultural heritage (Mongolian camel-herding customs). They assessed potential sites for indoor exhibitions and outdoor activities while brainstorming design concepts and layout plans with local camel culture experts. Discussions centered on building a multi-functional base that combines science education, hands-on experiences, and ecological conservation with camel industry knowledge.
Moving forward, the Geopark Administration will gather insights and best practices from top educational bases across China. Efforts will focus on enhancing the base’s impact, designing engaging study routes, and developing specialized courses—laying a solid foundation for a space where youth and visitors can explore Alxa’s intangible heritage and camel science.
