To fully explore the scientific and educational value of Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark and apply geological survey findings, the Geopark's administration organized a field study in the Taosigou area of Helan Mountain from March 10 to 11.
As a key geological heritage site, Taosigou preserves the Geopark's oldest rock formations, along with well-exposed sedimentary profiles from the Carboniferous, Permian, and Triassic periods. Fossils like trilobites and brachiopods make it an ideal location for scientific research and public education.
The survey aimed to identify key study themes for future educational programs, helping raise public awareness of ecological conservation and paleontological knowledge, including fossil formation and identification methods.
Next, the Geopark will protect this significant geological heritage while incorporating it into key study routes and developing diverse educational courses to support sustainable, high-quality development.
