According to UNESCO World Geoheritage Center, the Sand Dune-Sand Lake Group in Badain Jaran desert of Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark has been rolled in the preliminary list of China’s world heritage sites.

Badain Jaran desert the Sand Dune-Sand Lake Group were nominated to the World Heritage Center by Chinese government in January 2019 conforming to the World Natural Heritage Criteria(vii)and (viii).  IUCN fully recognized the outstanding value of Badain Jaran desert, and raised a positive comment.  Rolling into the preliminary list this time is a good opportunity for the Badain Jaran desert to be formally approved as the world heritage list, presenting the positive influence of the Badain Jaran desert at home and abroad.

Badain Jaran Desert, is located in the middle of the Alxa League, Inner Mongolia.  It is the second large desert in China and the third large desert in the world.  It is famous for the concentrated display of various desert landscapes such as mega sand dunes, singing sand, inter-dune lakes, spring water of sand lake and Mongolian temples.  It is a desert with unique, typical and comprehensive features, of high aesthetic and scientific value.
