There are 147 UNESCO Global Geoparks in the world up to 2019, including 60 in the Asia Pacific region and 39 in China. Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark is the only desert geopark in the world. From September 2nd-6th, 2019, more than 600 representatives from UGGp, UNESCO and GGN participated in the symposium, which was held in Rinjani-Lombok, Indonesia.
In accordance with the requirements of the symposium, Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark will enhance communication activities with UNESCO experts and other GGN members, sharing experiences on geopark construction and management, further promoting UGGp resources and designation, constantly improving the visibility and influence of ADUGGp.
The APGN Symposium was held by Asia Pacific Geopark network, it is one of the most important networking activities of UGGp. It provides an effective platform for researchers and managers of geoparks to exchange and share experiences with each other. The first symposium was initiated in 2007 then be held every two years. The 7th APGN Symposium will be held in Satun UGGp (Thailand) in September 2021.
