From November 7th to 12th, 2020, Professor TIAN Mingzhong and his team, from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), as Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark expert advisory group together with Professor WANG Cheng, the senior engineer from Ningxia Geological Survey Institute, and Administration for ADUGGp,jointly carried out field investigation in west slope of Helan Mountain in ADUGGp, especially on geological history, stratigraphic sequence, paleontological fossils and tectonic remains. ADUGGp includes Helan Mountain, which is an important geographical boundary in Northwest China. A complete stratigraphic sequence has been developed in Helan Mountain since Archean, recording the earth evolution history of nearly 2.1 billion years.
The focus of this field investigation is to comprehensively clarify the stratigraphic sequence, geological history and main tectonic evolution characteristics of Helan Mountain area, select 2-3 routes suitable for field study and research.
During the investigation, ADUGGp also invited sister geopark - Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark to participate in. Two sides exchanged views on the construction concepts, geopark revalidation process, geopark construction and team construction perspectives etc., which create a good communication and exchange channel now and in the future to follow on.
