China UNESCO Global Geoparks Annual Conference & 20th Anniversary Symposium of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) was held in Xingyi, Guizhou, on September 22–25, under the theme "Celebrating Geological Heritage, Writing the Next Chapter". Representatives from 47 Chinese Geoparks gathered to share experiences, discussing sustainable development. A three-member delegation from Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark attended the event.

The conference combined thematic sessions with field visits. Participants listened to speeches by experts, including UNESCO East Asia Director Shahbaz Khan and National Forestry and Grassland Administration officials. Key reports covered China’s 20-year Geopark development and the progress of the "Picturesque China Global Geoparks Atlas". The event also featured the inauguration of Xingyi UNESCO Global Geopark, sister-Geopark signings, and presentations by six newly designated UNESCO Global Geoparks.

A highlight was the visit to Xingyi Geopark’s Geological Primary School, where students learn earth sciences and serve as "little interpreters" of geological knowledge. Inspired by this model, Alxa Desert Geopark plans to pilot a similar program in local schools to train young science communicators.

Moving forward, Alxa Desert Geopark will focus on Protecting geological heritage,Enhancing science education,Supporting sustainable local economies,Strengthening cross-cultural exchanges.By integrating these efforts, the Geopark aims to elevate its global brand, safeguard ecosystems, and contribute to Alxa’s high-quality development.
