Recently, two new rock painting sites are discovered in Mandela Sumu (town) in Badain Jaran, they become new geosites of Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark.

One of the rock paintings’ theme is "fertility celebration scene", it has rich content and vivid pictures. It was initially determined that it was made in the Bronze Age, about 3,000-4,000 years ago.  The "fertility celebration scene" records the worship and wish of the ancestors and tribes for the endless life and the prosperity of local ethnic groups during the rock carving period.  The other rock painting, was found at the mountain foot, is estimated carved in the Ming-Qing Dynasty.  The pattern of rock paintings are clear and complete, reflecting the production and living scenes of the nomadic tribes at that time, can be listed as an "exquisite" paintings.

The rock paintings discovered this time are quite unique in terms of expression methods and contents.  The overall preservation of the rock paintings is relatively complete.  It provides detailed basis and data for the study of the aesthetic outlook, thinking mode and life style of the ancestors at that time.  It has high cultural relics value and research value in the rock art field.

The discovery of new geosites has provided valuable natural and human historical resources for the geoheritage protection and scientific research of Alxa DUGGp, also provided new research topics for future geopark geoscience and geotourism projects.
